Hold, please.

When Meredith had Lizzy, she informed me that I HAD to get an Angel Care Monitor for Jaxon when he was born. She basically told me it would keep me sane! We looked into it and decided we definitely wanted one!

Fast forward a few months. In the crazy-ness of early babies and NICU visits and moving and, life, I forgot about the Angel Care Monitor. In fact, I forgot about a monitor at all! My dad called me two days before Jaxon was to come home from the NICU. He wanted to know if I had ordered my monitor yet. (Because Jaxon was early, we wanted the AC monitor even more.) No, I hadn't, I told him I would order it when I got home from visiting Jaxon that night. He told me not to worry about it, and ordered it off Amazon. He was having it next day air mailed to us. Such. A. Blessing.

Monitor arrives and Jaxon refuses to sleep in anything other than the bassinet that came with his Pack N Play. You know, the one with a not flat bottom. Thus, the "Angel Care" part of the monitor wasn't going to do us much good. Eventually he decided he could sleep in the Pack N Play in our room. We used it and loved it.

Now that Jaxon is in his own room in his crib, I especially love it. We have a few "false alarms" every now and again when he scoots into the corner or something, and the monitor can't detect his breathing, but it's nice to know it works!

Last night we had kind of a rough night. Jaxon was up/down all night. We are trying to walk the fine line of letting him fuss it out, but not cry it out. (Please, no judging!) Jaxon kind of started fussing last night, about 3:30am, and Jesse, in his sleepy state, grabbed the monitor and pulled it into bed with him.

I heard Jaxon stop fussing, but the monitor was beeping every minute or so. Jesse, still asleep, turns off the monitor. I grab it from him and turn it back on and look at it. It's beeping every minute and THIS is what I see.

A flashing H? And random beeping every minute. And not detecting any noise. What the H!?!

Just about then Jaxon started crying, so Jesse went in to soothe him. I'm laying in bed cursing this stupid monitor. Pushing all the buttons, what the heck!? I turn it off, turn it on. Nothing changes. Great, it's broken. I think I even shook it at one point. That definitely didn't do anything.

So, I did what any Mama would do. I grabbed my Iphone, hopped on google, and I googled, I kid you not, "Flashing H, Angel Care Monitor".... Jesse had put on hand unit on "hold". I guess it's for when you want to pick up the baby, but not turn off the whole unit. The alarm that tells you that your baby isn't breathing wont go off if you have the unit on hold. Well that's cool. Now, how do I turn it off?

I googled again, "Turn off hold, Angel Care Monitor".... It basically said something to the effect of "You stupid idiot, push the same button to pushed to put it on hold".... Uhhh, I don't know what button Jesse pushed. I get up, turn the light on and see the hold button, push it, voila! It works.

Thank God for Google and an Iphone. What did mom's do without them?! They probably didn't have a ridiculous baby monitor back in the day either ;)

Until next time......

So how do you like it overall? We're thinking of getting one for us and for my brother and sister-in-law, who are due in April. They lost their first son to SIDS and i think this would be reassuring. Let me know via amanda! lol

I passed along your info to Jill, Kait. And I really just think you guys need to be FB friends. Lol. Glad you figured the monitor out, and we are getting one too =)

That is so funny! Your Angelcare monitor is WAY more high tech than ours (we got it off Craigslist and it is really old).

I still love ours too, even though people make fun of me for it. They're always like "we survived for hundreds of years without it"...and my response is always "YES, and hundreds of babies died from SIDS." If the technology is out there and isn't ridiculously expensive, why NOT use it, ya know?

We have false alarms too, but that's mostly because we haven't adjusted the sensitivity recently, and I don't really mind them...like you, it's nice to know that it works!
